EPS Pools

EPS Pool Construction

EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) pool construction combines the design flexibility of concrete with significantly faster build times and superior insulation. Pools-Now builds custom EPS pools using engineered foam block systems that deliver strength, efficiency, and lasting performance.

What Is an EPS Pool?

EPS pools use interlocking expanded polystyrene blocks as the forming system for the pool shell. The blocks are stacked like oversized building blocks, reinforced with steel rebar, and then filled with concrete or finished with shotcrete. The result is a structurally engineered, fully insulated pool shell that can be built in virtually any shape or size.

Why Choose EPS Construction?

  • Faster Build Times – EPS block systems assemble quickly, reducing overall construction time by weeks compared to traditional formed concrete.
  • Built-In Insulation – The foam blocks provide continuous insulation around the pool shell, reducing heat loss and lowering energy costs year-round.
  • Design Flexibility – Curved walls, custom depths, integrated spas, tanning ledges, and benches are all achievable with EPS block systems.
  • Structural Strength – Steel-reinforced concrete core delivers the same structural integrity as traditional poured concrete.
  • Reduced Excavation Waste – Lightweight blocks mean less heavy equipment and less disruption to your property during construction.
  • Compatible With All Finishes – Plaster, pebble, tile, and specialty coatings all adhere to EPS pool shells.

Construction Process

  1. Design and Engineering – Custom pool layout with structural engineering for your specific site conditions.
  2. Excavation – Precision dig with a compacted gravel base.
  3. Block Assembly – Interlocking EPS blocks stacked and shaped to your pool design.
  4. Steel Reinforcement – Horizontal and vertical rebar installed throughout the block system.
  5. Concrete Fill / Shotcrete – Concrete pumped into the block cores and shotcrete applied to the interior face.
  6. Plumbing and Electrical – All returns, skimmers, drains, lighting, and equipment connections.
  7. Interior Finish – Plaster, pebble, tile, or your chosen surface material applied.
  8. Equipment and Startup – Pump, filter, heater, automation installed, pool filled and balanced.
  9. Deck and Landscaping – Pavers, concrete, or natural stone deck to complete the project.

EPS vs. Traditional Gunite

Both methods produce a concrete pool shell, but EPS offers built-in insulation, faster assembly, and reduced labor costs. Gunite offers maximum flexibility for complex freeform shapes. We help you choose the right method based on your design, budget, and timeline.

Ideal Applications

  • Residential pools with custom shapes and features
  • Pools with integrated spas, tanning ledges, or swim-outs
  • Energy-conscious builds prioritizing insulation and efficiency
  • Projects requiring faster construction timelines
